Estimation of the benefits of research using changes in producer and consumer surplus following a research-induced shift in the supply curve provides a useful framework for the analysis of new wheat varieties. However, the framework assumes an homogeneous product, which is not the case for wheat where there are changes in quality as a result of research. This aspect is particularly important where there is a trade-off between quality and yield, as in the case of a higher-yielding, but lower-quality wheat variety. The aim of this paper is to incorporate these quality aspects into an analysis based on a partial equilibrium framework by separating the wheat market into segments based on wheat quality. A change in the type of wheat produced can then be... |

Larvae of A. citrinopsis Dyar were found feeding on leaves of castor-bean plants (Ricinus communis L.) on plantations at Caiuá, Tupi Paulista, Junqueirópolis, Ouro Verde, Marabá Paulista and Cândido Rodrigues, in the State of São Paulo, Brazil. The larvae feed on the lower surface of leaves, were they form cocoon and pupate later on. Only at Junqueirópolis the infestation was high, but there was a natural decrease in the insect population. The hymenopterous Glyptapanteles dalosoma Santis, 1987 (Braconidae), Ceratosmicra argentina Blanchard, 1942 (Chalcididae) and Isdromas monterai (Costa Lima, 1948) (Ichneumonidae) were reared from larvae; the latter two probably behaved as hyperparasites. |

Twetve external morphological traits and seven traits of food-gathering behavior were studied in africanized and caucasian (A. m. caucasica), bees. Discriminant analysis showed that neither the length of the fourth segment of the abdomen, nor bee weight can be considered as the traits with the highest discriminatory power between africanized and caucasian bees, with any in-bred bees. In the case of in-bred bees the discriminam traits had a lower interorbital width and time to reach the feeder. Multivariate comparisons between the data of in-bred colonies and twenty hibrid colonies, suggest dominance of the genes group of the africanized subspecies. |

Delaware consumers were surveyed to obtain information about package size preferences for fresh beef and pork products. A chi-square and gamma analysis was made and age was found to be significant and positively correlated to the size of package chosen for various roasts and flank steak. Age and preferred package size was negatively correlated for ground beef, sirloin steak, spareribs, and pork chops. The larger the family the greater the tendency to buy larger packages of ground beef and roasts, as well as spareribs and pork chops. Those with higher incomes tended to purchase larger steaks. Females showed preferences for smaller packages while males preferred larger packages. |

Between December 1984 and July 1986, the Planning Division of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Development, in conjunction with the Rural Development Studies Bureau of the University of Zambia and Iowa State University conducted a rural household survey. This is referred to as the ZATPID I Rural Household Survey, because it was conducted during phase I of ZATPID, a five year USAID/Zambia project. ZATPID stands for Zambia Agricultural Training, Planning and Institutional Developmental Project. The aim of the survey was to provide data for use in analysis to inform policy making in Zambia. It was also supposed to provide a data bank for use by Zambian graduate students to meet the research requirements of their degree programs. The objectives of... |

The digestive tract of crustacea is complex. It is composed of a shor t oesophagum, a stomach with two bags, and internal wall with appendags specialized in grinding of feeds. These hard mastication pieces represent the gastric mill. Setae, filters included in the stomach structure allow the separation between food particles and liquid compounds. Those one are coming over through filters and more on to the digestive gland tubules or mid gut gland. In this organ, several types of cells play specialized functions: absorption, enzyme secretion, stocking function. Some cells of a new type, with undefined function, may be neurosecretions function, have been described recently. The end of tubules of digestive gland exhibits cells with embryonic characteristics.... |

This work constitutes a systematic survey of the Annelida Polychaeta from the sublitoral of the São Paulo State coast (Ubatuba), southeast Brazil. From 105 identified species, 20 are new records for the brazilian coast. An analysis of affinity degree between the fauna of the studied region and of the adjacents biogeographic provinces shows that 25,5% of the species are endemic for the Paulista Province, 19,0% amphi-american, 17,0% cosmopolite and 16,8% amphi-atlantic. An affinity with species from the Patagonian (7,4%) and Caribbean (2,0%) Provinces is smaller than that of other authors, for the southeast Brazilian coast. |

The copepodite antennule development of representatives of 6 harpacticoid families is studied and discussed in detail and that of 8 genera of harpacticoids from 7 families is schematically illustrated. Twenty-seven genera out of 17 harpacticoid families are compared on the basis of own investigations and data from the literature. The origin of newly formed segments can be determined by seta numbers of segments, relative segment length, furrows indicating previous articulations and by the position of the segment which bears the proximal aesthetasc. There are 2 zones of segment formation, both located in the middle part of the first antenna. Normal segment formation takes place distally from the second, aesthetasc-bearing segment from C I to C II and... |
